AITO Specialist Travel Agents has officially launched its new sustainable tourism campaign at its overseas conference. The new scheme, called ‘Let’s Go Green’ is to provide members with advice on how travel agents can help their community or see how their office is having an impact on the environment. It will also provide tips to hand on to clients and AITO has also encouraged agents to get behind The Travel Foundation’s ‘Make Holidays Greener’ week in July. “As well as enhancing ST communication with customers, agents should also look at improving their business and office practices, along with supporting eco-projects,” said Oliver Broad, chairman of AITO Agents. He said he was inspired by a recent trip. “On a recent trip to the Galapagos Islands, which has various admirable measures in place to combat the impact of tourism, including clearing up rubbish and educating local children about the various species on neighbouring islands, it became even more obvious that we, as holiday retailers, should be aware of ST issues and how we can help,” he said.
