Amadeus has received approval to use IATA’s Billing and Settlement Plan (BSP) in mainland China.
The certification moves the GDS company a step closer to allowing Chinese travel agents to fulfil the entire billing and ticketing process of travel products offered by international airlines.
“Granting us this certification allows us to do what we do best – bring superior technology, speed, efficiency and financial savings to travel agents. And we’re excited to expand our capabilities within China,” said Bart Tompkins, managing director of Amadeus Greater China. “We thank IATA for their support of advancing technological capabilities within the travel industry.”
Amadeus’ IATA BSP certification offers electronic ticketing, billing and collection of air tickets for travel agencies. Reporting and remittances are consolidated, and quality control is improved with a streamlined, electronic system.
“To compete in the ever changing and competitive world of travel, the Chinese travel industry needs advanced technology to better service the industry. Amadeus along with other global distribution systems are actively entering the Chinese market, and we welcome the news that Amadeus has now been BSP certified for China enabling it to ticket in China,” said Sandeep Bahl, chairman of the Board of Airline Representatives in China (BARIC).
Amadeus’ IATA BSP certification follows approval from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) in January, allowing authorised international airlines to be bookable via Amadeus in China.
