British travel company K&S Travel, which specialises in tours to Turkey, has collapsed, affecting some 550 people who had either left or planning to leave for Turkey, a Reuters report said.
“It’s a very small failure, but it’s a failure all the same,” a spokesperson for the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) was quoted saying.
The report said K&S Travel, which also traded as Travel Turkey, could not immediately be reached for comment. The firm had chartered flights from Onur Air. The CAA was quoted by The Independent as saying that holidaymakers were covered by the Atol protection scheme, and it had re-chartered planes from Onur to minimise disruption.
The collapse follows that of XL Leisure Group, which grounded all its flights on Friday, stranding around 85,000 tourists in the United States, Europe, North Africa and the Caribbean.
XL had blamed the global economic downturn and volatile fuel prices for its sudden collapse.
