Bangkok Airways has commenced flights to the northern Thai city of Chiang Rai.
The new domestic service took off from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport for the first time on Friday (28 March 2014) and will now operate twice a day, using a 162-seat Airbus A320 aircraft.
“We see Chiang Rai as another potential destination to enhance tourism and commerce within the region,” said Bangkok Airways’ president, Puttipong Prasarttong-Osoth. “As Bangkok Airways is focusing on leisure destinations, therefore we see the high demand from international passengers connecting to Southeast Asia. We look to cement our position in the increasingly competitive Thai market.”
Flights will depart Bangkok every day at 0735 and 1805, with a journey time of approximately one hour and 20 minutes. The return services will leave Chiang Rai at 0945 and 2010.
Bangkok Airways is also promoting the new route for cyclists, by allowing passengers to travel with their bicycle free-of-charge.
