British Airways’ first Airbus A380 arrived at Heathrow today, a first for the UK aviation market.
The carrier’s first flight using the Airbus A380 will head to Los Angeles on 24 September with its Hong Kong services starting from 22 October.
As well as being the first UK airline to have an A380 in its fleet, the carrier has also become the first airline in Europe to operate both the A380 and Boeing 787 Dreamliner, which it received for the first time last week.
“We are delighted to welcome the first of our A380s to the fleet, joining our new 787s. These aircraft are the start of a new era for British Airways. Over the next 15 months, we will take delivery of new aircraft at the rate of one a fortnight as we put ourselves at the forefront of modern aviation,” said BA’s CEO Keith Williams.
Its A380s will have 44 Club World seats on the main deck and 53 in the upper; while 55 World Traveller Plus seats will be located on the upper deck and World Traveller passengers can choose between the two levels.
BA has 12 A380s on order with another two to be delivered this year.
