Business travel boosts hotel market recovery, says Hotels.com

The rise of corporate travel has boosted hotel prices and therefore themarket, according to Hotels.com. Data from the website’s Hotel Price Index(HPI) has found that the increase in occupancy and prices in key markets has boosted the average per nightrate by 2 percent. This is the first average price increase since 2007. “Business travel, and the associatedconvention trade, is back and this increased corporate demand has been drivingup occupancy and hotel prices in many of the world’s major financial centres,”said David Roche, president of Hotels.com. “However, as the global fallin prices has been so prolonged and steep, guests were still paying roughly thesame for a hotel night that they would have done six or seven years ago.”
