Carlson to open 10th property in China

SINGAPORE - October 13, 2009 - Carlson Hotels Worldwide, one of the world’s leading hotel companies, will open its 10th property in China this week – Park Plaza Beijing West, the latest addition to the group’s upper mid-scale brand. Carlson Hotels Worldwide has another seven hotels under development in China, which will add close to 2,000 rooms to its Radisson® Hotels & Resorts and Park Plaza® Hotels & Resorts brands, within the next three years.
Park Plaza Beijing West is a 263-room contemporary property located at the end of Beijing’s Chang An Boulevard, next to the Wukesong Arena.
“The opening of this hotel comes at a time when demand for upper mid-scale hotel rooms is on the rise in China. Our Park Plaza properties are particularly ideal for cost-conscious business travellers seeking affordable yet quality accommodation with consistent standards,” said Jean-Marc Busato, managing director - Asia Pacific, Carlson Hotels Worldwide.
The new Park Plaza Beijing West hotel will provide complimentary high speed internet access to all guests. The hotel has a selection of dining and entertainment choices, as well as meeting rooms and a ballroom for small seminars and conferences. It will be the third Park Plaza hotel in Beijing.
“Although we continue to value opportunities in key gateway cities such as Beijing and Shanghai, we are also focusing on developments in secondary and tertiary markets,” added Busato. “We currently have hotels under development in other fast-growing markets such as Chongqing, Liuzhou, Sanya and Shenyang.”
Earlier this year, Carlson Hotels Worldwide opened a 254-room hotel in China’s third largest city Tianjin. Strategically located in the city’s new financial hub in the Hedong District, the Radisson Plaza Hotel Tianjin is a 29 minute bullet train ride away from Beijing.
Carlson Hotels Worldwide plans to more than double its portfolio across the region by 2012 focusing on four major markets - China, India, Thailand the South Pacific. It currently has 49 hotels in operation across the region or more than 9,000 rooms and another 75 properties under development or over 12,000 rooms, including a Park Plaza property in Lhasa, Tibet.
