Cebu Pacific Air (CEB) has unveiled the latest phase of its long-haul expansion, with more flights to the Middle East and the launch of its first ever services to Australia.
Following the start of its first long-haul services last year, the Philippine low-cost carrier will start operating direct flights from Manila to Sydney and Kuwait in September 2014, using its new fleet of twin-aisle Airbus A330s.
On 2 September, CEB will commence direct flights between Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport and Kuwait City, offering three weekly services. Then a week later on 9 September, the LCC will launch four weekly flights between Manila and Sydney. This will mark the airline’s debut in Australia.
CEB said the new routes would serve the overseas Filipino workforce, which totals more than 180,000 in Kuwait and 300,000 in Sydney.
“Our trademark low fares will allow our ‘kababayans’ abroad… to visit home more often, as we had done in other destinations before, and at the same time attract Australian tourists into our shores,” said CEB’s president & CEO, Lance Gokongwei.
Both new routes will utilise CEB’s brand new Airbus A330-300 aircraft, which are configured with a high density single-cabin layout, with 436 economy class seats. The aircraft will come equipped with Wi-Fi.
CEB started operating long-haul in October 2013, with the launch of flights between Manila and Dubai. It has also expressed an interest in launching services to Europe, the US, and more destinations in the Middle East, including Qatar.
The airline currently operates four A330s and expects to take delivery of two more.
