A change in responsibilities for MP Lilian Greenwood has prompted lobbying groups to put pressure on the government over Air Passenger Duty (APD).
Greenwood’s role in Larbour’s Transport Team now includes aviation responsibilities and she will shadow Transport Secretary Simon Burns as part of her brief.
Simon Buck, chief executive of the British Air Transport Association said: “Lilian Greenwood MP’s new responsibility for aviation policy on Labour’s front bench offers an ideal opportunity for the Opposition to put pressure on the Government between now and the next election to review the impact of Air Passenger Duty (APD) on the UK economy.
It is timely to re-focus the debate on the damage caused by Air Passenger Duty and expose the flaws in the Government’s current approach. The Government plans year-on-year rises in APD despite the growing body of evidence that suggests that reduction or abolition could deliver significant economic benefits.”
Greenwood will retain her responsibility for rail including Crossrail with Norman Baker and Stephen Hammond.
