Premier Holidays has recorded a 60% increase in bookings to the Channel Islands compared to the same period last year. Bookings for the year are also up 6%, showing that Brits are still opting for the ‘staycation’. “Overall sales to the islands are performing well and we have seen a noticeable increase in bookings over the last three weeks,” explained Premier Holidays Channel Islands General Manager Beverley Scarr. “In the last three weeks, bookings to Guernsey have been up 30% and to Jersey up 14%.” She added that late bookings were also on the rise as 70% of clients book less than three months before their departure date. “Short breaks and weekend breaks of two or three nights are also becoming increasingly popular,” revealed Scarr. She has attributed the islands sale success to the array of deals on offer such as ‘four nights for the price of three’ and free half board deals. Scarr said visitors were also drawn to the diverse offering on the islands and favoured shorter travel times. “The islands are fast becoming a desirable holiday destination not just because of their family appeal, but due to their cosmopolitan city life combined with their traditional historical heritage,” she explained. “As our booking statistics show, the ‘staycation’ is definitely as popular as ever, with many families choosing to holiday within the UK instead of travelling abroad,” Scarr added. Weekend flights from regional airports such as Dundee and Oxford have transported visitors to Jersey but Scarr said that sea travel had also been popular.
