The Chinese version of popular musical ‘Mamma Mia’ premiered at the Shanghai Grand Theater on Friday night. According to Xinhua, the Chinese production “contains the original flavour” of the stage musical, which is based on the songs of Swedish pop group, Abba. While still being set on a fictional Greek island, the two-and-a-half-hour comedy-drama is said to combine the original jokes with Chinese interpretations.
Mamma Mia will be performed 200 times in Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou in its first season, which runs until November.
