More domestic holidays were taken in England this July compared to last year, VisitEngland has revealed.
The new Great Britain Tourism Survey has found a 9% increase in domestic trips in July and 9% boost in England too, with visitors spending GBP1.8 billion during the month.
Sunny weather had helped 12% change their plans and choose to holiday in the UK and 17% are more likely to do so as a result of the good weather.
“Operators have reported increased visitor numbers this year and are seeing positive forward bookings for autumn,” said James Berresford, chief executive of VisitEngland.
“With the 400th anniversary of the birth of Shakespeare, the Tour de France setting off from Yorkshire, as well as a whole host of exciting events, new attractions and hotel openings, I’m confident that the trend to holiday at home will go from strength to strength,” he added.
