easyJet will expand in the French market next year, with the opening of two new bases at Nice and Toulouse airports.
The budget airline will station two Airbus A319 aircraft at both southern hubs by summer 2012, expanding its total France-based fleet to 24 aircraft. easyJet already has three operational bases in France, at Paris’ Charles de Gaulle and Orly airports and Lyon. The addition of the two new hubs takes easyJet’s total number of operational bases to 22.
Following the opening of the two new bases, easyJet said expects to add a further 10 regional and international routes, taking its total routes from 27 to 37. From Nice, France’s largest airport outside of Paris, easyJet will add five new destinations, including Toulouse, Nantes and Bordeaux. In total easyJet will offer 21 destinations and up to 215 flights per week from the Mediterranean coastal city.
From Toulouse, the airline will also add five new destinations including Brussels and Basel, giving it a total network of 16 routes and up to 140 weekly flights from the city.
“This strategic investment will allow us to strengthen our position in one of Europe’s key markets,” said Catherine Lynn, easyJet’s customer & revenue director. “With these two new bases in Nice and Toulouse – the 21st and 22nd in our network – we will offer more choice to our French leisure and business customers.”
The new routes from Nice and Toulouse bases will be on sale from November 2011.
