Politicians in West Bengal will starve the tourist trade in the coming election period after booking out all the hire vehicles for campaign purposes. According to ANI, all the vehicles normally used by tourists have been taken over by the Election Commission. Tourism in the region has been squeezed by insecurity for the last three years and local reports suggest that this latest move by the government will place added pressure on operators for another season. The main concern is for tourists who have already booked stays through this period. Without a vehicle they will not be able to travel around the region. The cars have been booked out from 18 April to 10 May until the election is done.
