Emirates will become the first airline to operate Airbus A380 services to Dallas.
Commencing on 1 October 2014, the airline will deploy its largest aircraft on the direct route between Dubai and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). This will make the Texas hub the 28th international destination to be served using Emirates’ A380 fleet, and the third in the US after New York and Los Angeles.
“Emirates is committed to the people and places we serve, and we are bringing our flagship A380 to Dallas-Fort Worth by popular demand,” said Hubert Frach, Emirates’ divisional senior vice president of commercial operations. “With the A380, we are not only bringing our flagship product to serve our leisure and business customers, but also demonstrating our commitment and confidence in the economic and tourism potential of the region.”
Emirates started flying to DFW in 2012, using a 266-seat Boeing 777-200LR. The introduction of the 489-seat A380 will mark an 84% increase in capacity on each leg of the route.
DFW is one of the biggest airports in the US and the world, covering 69.6km² with seven runways.
“The A380 is big, and so is DFW Airport. It’s fitting for Emirates to bring its Airbus A380 to North Texas as we celebrate the 40th anniversary of DFW Airport and recognise its US$31.6 billion economic impact in our region,” said Fort Worth’s mayor, Betsy Price. “The new A380 service will allow us to create even more business connections from DFW to Dubai and beyond.”
Emirates’ A380 has a capacity of 489 passengers, with 14 seats in first class, 76 in business class and 399 in economy. It also offers onboard Wi-Fi.
The Emirates A380 service will operate daily, departing Dubai at 0245 and arriving at DFW at 0945. The return leg then leaves the Texas hub at 1235, getting back into Dubai at 1220 the following day.
