EXO Travel’s operations in Thailand have been certified for their environment and social sustainability.
The travel company’s Bangkok-based division, EXO Thailand, has received Travelife certification, which recognises its efforts towards corporate, social, cultural and environmental responsibility.
This marks EXO’s third Travelife certification, following previous achievements in Vietnam and Cambodia.
“We are extremely proud to have achieved this important milestone for EXO Thailand,” said George Ehrlich-Adam, EXO Travel’s chief operating officer. “The recognition belongs to the dedicated and passionate team of people who put all their hearts into this project following the lead of our Vietnam and Cambodia offices. Laos and Myanmar will be our next destinations to undertake the certification, while Indonesia will begin the process in 2017.”
Travelife certification requires a business to achieve compliance in a total of 247 areas, covering the company’s office management, supply chain, products and customer services. The criteria encompass environmental efforts, biodiversity, human rights and labour relations. The programme is aligned with the UN’s Global Sustainable Tourism Council criteria.
Globally, 90 companies have started the certification process and 39 have achieved certification. Only four of these are located in Southeast Asia.
“The Travelife certification is a wonderful achievement for us. It has been a very exciting process so far and it’s an excellent motivator for us to keep developing and improving in the future. We hope to set a positive example for others to follow on our journey to more sustainable tourism,” said EXO Thailand’s sustainability coordinator, Nia Klatte.
