ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates, 7 September 2009 - Fairmont Hotels & Resorts announces the opening of its first property in the capital of United Arab Emirates (UAE), on the Abu Dhabi Creek. Positioned at the mainland gateway of the city and situated directly on the beachfront, Fairmont Bab Al Bahr, meaning ‘Gateway to the Sea’, will debut in October 2009.
“Abu Dhabi is fast developing into one of the most exciting cities in the Middle East and Fairmont Bab Al Bahr is poised to compliment this growth by providing both the local community and international travelers with a new top-class venue,” states Michael Kaile, General Manager. “The innovative hotel design, conference and leisure facilities, a full dining portfolio combined with renowned Fairmont hospitality will strengthen our brand’s position in the UAE capital.”
Located in ‘new’ Abu Dhabi, an area destined to become one of the most exciting office, retail and residential developments in the city, the hotel benefits from spectacular views of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, with easy access to Abu Dhabi City Centre and Corniche, and is in close proximity to Abu Dhabi International Airport.
Fairmont Bab Al Bahr boasts 369 elegantly appointed guestrooms, a variety of world-class restaurants and over 2,500 square metres (26,900 square feet) of function space (opening early 2010), a private sandy beachfront, two outdoor swimming pools, a fitness centre and a 2,500 square metre (26,000 square feet) Willow Stream Spa (opening beginning 2010), that will offer a full range of signature treatments to refresh and rejuvenate guests.
With its strikingly contemporary design, the hotel is poised to offer the highest level of comfort, convenience and elegance with generously appointed guestrooms, state-of-the-art technology and renowned Fairmont service. The exterior facade of the property was inspired by the ocean water alongside the Creek, with blue glass and white fluid lines being suggestive of moving water, whilst the geometric shape of the building and the innovative light display pays homage to modernity and cutting edge technology.
Embracing an organic theme throughout, each one of the elegantly appointed guestrooms features a range of rich textures, employing the use of marble, walnut wood paneling and bamboo inspired soft furnishings. A unique interior design feature, guests will also enjoy a ‘bath with a view’, as many bathtubs are situated to provide an ideal vantage point to take in breathtaking views of the Creek.
Designed to fulfill the needs of the discerning business executive and leisure traveler, Fairmont Bab Al Bahr will also feature Fairmont Gold, the brand’s exclusive lifestyle offering, with a private reception area, a dedicated lounge and a full range of bespoke services and amenities.
The hotel will also offer a tantalizing array of cuisines with a dining portfolio featuring eight restaurants and lounges. Spearheaded by Executive Chef John Cordeaux and his culinary brigade, highlights include a Frankie’s Italian Restaurant and Bar, created by famed jockey Frankie Dettori and renowned UK Chef Marco Pierre White. Fairmont Bab Al Bahr will also present the first Marco Pierre White Steakhouse & Grill outside of the UK, which will serve the choicest cuts of beef and house one of the largest selections of wine in the city.
