Fiji’s international visitor arrivals figures for Q1 2010 have shown a marked increase over the same period in 2009, with the country’s Minister for Tourism, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, commenting the numbers are now on par with the figures achieved during the record breaking 2008. A total of 126,942 international travellers visited Fiji in the first three months of the year – 26.5% more than Q1 2009, and just 3.6% shy of the record 131,576 recorded for Q1 2008. Australian arrivals led the revival, increasing 53.9% year-on-year to 57,009. Significant rises were also seen from New Zealand (+35.6% to 13,441), the US (+5.1% to 11,968) and, significantly, Greater China, which climbed 77.5%, albeit from a low base.
