Fingers point in Vietnam’s hotel fiasco

Inbound operators say it’s a clear-cut case of profiteeringand will eventually scar the nation’s tourism hopes. TravelIndochina product manager, Eric Finley, told the Vietnam Economic Times, “Wehave been marketing Vietnamfor more than 13 years and have never seen anything like this.”
He added, “Whennegotiating rates for 2008, we had some hoteliers insisting on immediate rateincreases, and increases of 50% on existing bookings.”
Phoenix VoyagesGroups president, Edouard George said he was forced to quote”blindly”, and had to turn down several groups “not because thehotels are full, but because they refused to sell their rooms to inboundagencies”.
