Firefly will receive two new ATR turboprop aircraft later this year, as it continues with its fleet expansion plans. The Malaysian low-cost carrier’s 11th new ATR72-500 aircraft will arrive in October, followed by its 12th in November 2011. Both planes will start flying one month after delivery, following pre-service checks.
The two additional aircraft will be used to strengthen Firefly’s existing network, boosting frequencies to high demand destinations, such as to Langkawi, Penang, Johor Bahru and Singapore from its Subang base. Firefly currently operates a total of 324 weekly ATR flights to 17 destinations.
Firefly’s Managing Director, Eddy Leong said that Firefly is negotiating also for additional ATR72-500s to be delivered between now and 2015.
