TMCs claim the disruptions to flights in Europe will not impact their sales.”We are a transaction business and as long as the clients who are stuck fly back at some point in time, we are OK,” explained Alshamel International Vice President - Travel Agency Benjo Laarhoven. “We will see a gap of low transaction numbers [for last week], but then it will pick up. Also, many customers will have been travelling on non-refundable tickets, so will have to buy new ones.”BCD Travel Managing Director Sumit Acharya added: “Strangely, apart from dealing with people stranded, we have been spending a significant amount of time dealing with customers eager to travel out to Europe and the UK for meetings.”Laarhoven also warned that it could take a long time to re-book some clients on new flights once airlines were airborne once again.”Those who were flying on restricted tickets who are not Platinum, Gold or Silver [frequent flyer] members are not number one priority for airlines,” he stressed.
