Airlines said they will look to minimise disruption in the next six days after French air traffic controllers (ATC) announced industrial action.
Flights into the country as well as those that fly through French airspace could face cancellations or delays from tomorrow (24 June) through to Sunday (29 June).
Airlines are currently waiting to hear from the Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGCA) about schedule cuts for the following days although some have already put measures into place.
The country’s main carrier Air France said it has been told to reduce its schedule by 20% to and from Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseille, Toulouse and the Paris region.
Flights from Paris to Spain, Portugal, Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia are affected in the schedule changes, although Air France said it expects to operate all its long-haul flights and 90% of short and medium-haul services.
Ryanair has already cancelled more than 30 flights for tomorrow and Wednesday but this has mainly affected services from France to other European countries such as Spain and Italy.
easyJet said it expects the DGCA will inform the airline to cancel 50% of its flights in and out of France and will update passengers by SMS and email as well as its website.
British Airways said it will publish its revised schedules at 1400 GMT each day for the following day’s flights, and warned of disruption to routes that overfly France.
All carriers affected are offering refunds for those booked on flights during the strike period, and have advised to rebook on dates past Sunday.
The SNCTA and Unsa-ICNA unions announced strikes on Friday for the six days in protests against government aviation cuts that will come into effect from 2015 to 2019.
Rail protests are also taking place for 10 days in the country.
