Forbidden City museum completes seven-year audit

The Palace Museum in Beijing’s Forbidden City has completed a seven-year count of its treasures. Xinhua reported that the inventory at the former Qing dynasty (1644-1911) palace totalled a staggering 1.81 million items. Among the collection, 1.68 million items were classified as valuable cultural relics under state protection, while 115,000 are considered ordinary cultural relics and 7,500 are sample pieces of royal porcelain. The last survey, which took place from 1925 to 1930, counted 1.17 million items.
