Freak tornado hits Auckland
One person was killed in Auckland yesterday when a tornado ripped through the city. The freak twister brought winds of up to 200kph to New Zealand’s largest city, picking up cars, uprooting trees and tearing roofs off buildings. One man was killed when he was picked up by the tornado and hurled against a wall, according to local media reports. Fourteen other people were injured. The NZ Herald reported that Tuesday’s tornado, which had not been forecast by meteorologists, was the first to hit the city since 1991.
