In-flight Wi-Fi provider Gogo has started the commercial roll-out of its new ATG-4 solution, offering faster connection speeds for passengers.
Virgin America is the launch customer for the solution, and this week completed the installation of ATG-4 on one of its Airbus A319 aircraft. In 2009, Virgin America became the first airline to offer Gogo in-flight Wi-Fi on every flight.
The new faster option will now be rolled out to all 53 of the California-based airline’s Airbus aircraft.
“Virgin America remains on the cutting edge of offering the best experiences to its passengers and we are excited to continue to work with them on creating a better Wi-Fi experience,” said Dave Bijur, Gogo’s regional president. “ATG-4 has had a significant impact on the market and we continue to see positive results from this newer technology.”
ATG-4 offers peak speeds of 9.8 Mbps – more than triple the peak speed of the 3.1 Mbps available with the first generation of in-flight Wi-Fi.
