Golf holiday? Try North Korea
A pioneering South Korean tour operator is planning to start golf packages in the North Korean capital, Pyongyang. Talks between Seoul-based PyeongHwa Group and North Korea’s Asia-Pacific Peace Committee will involve allowing direct flights from the South to Pyongyang’s Gimpo International Airport, Korea Herald reported.
A four-night five-day golf package tour, which would include two days of golf and a two-day tour of Pyongyang, could cost 2.7 million won (US$2,787). However PyeongHwa Group manager Park Se Jin was quoted saying that talks were in the early stages still.
The report said PyeongHwa Group has been at the forefront of organising visits to the communist state. It was the first South Korean travel agency to offer tours to Pyongyang and Mt. Baekdu in 2003. However flights have always been routed via China.
