Guangzhou’s 9 Air to launch this week

9 Air, Guangzhou‘s first low-cost carrier, will launch its first scheduled flights this week.
New services to Wenzhou, in eastern China’s Zhejiang province, and Harbin, the capital of northeast China’s Heilongjiang province, will take off from Guangzhou’s Baiyun International Airport on 15 January 2015.
A subsidiary of Shanghai’s Juneyao Airlines, 9 Air will offer low-cost flights aboard a fleet of all-economy Boeing 737 aircraft. Passengers will be offered three fare types, including Supersaver, Flex, and Premium options, with various charges for added extras, such as baggage, in-flight meals and ticket changes. True to the airline’s name, promotional fares start from just CNY9 (approximately US$1.50).
And 9 Air will significantly expand its fleet in future, having placed an order for 50 B737 and B737 MAX aircraft in May last year.
China Southern Airlines is the largest carrier operating Guangzhou’s Baiyun International Airport, while other LCCs flying to and from the hub include AirAsia, Tigerair, Spring Airlines and Cebu Pacific.
