Icelandair has announced additional capacity from Gatwick and Glasgow for 2014.
The airline is to add a fifth weekly flight from Glasgow from 14 April, connecting the city to Reykjavik and onto further destinations in the USA and Canada.
In addition the carrier will add a fourth then fifth weekly flight from Gatwick this month to Reykjavik after seeing popularity on the route.
“It is a real pleasure to see Glasgow earn this extra frequency as the route has been going from strength to strength in recent years,” said Hjörvar Sæberg Högnason, Icelandair’s general manager UK and Ireland.
The airline will be providing more onward connections next year when it adds services from Reykjavik to Vancouver and Edmonton. Flights to Edmonton will start on 26 March through to January 2015 four times a week. Its Vancouver route will start twice a week from 13 May to 12 October 2014.
“We think we can offer very competitive service between Europe and Edmonton and are aiming for a full year service to the city“, said Birkir Hólm Guðnason, Icelandair’s CEO. “Our flight to Seattle, south of the border on the west coast of the US, has been a success for us and we hope the Vancouver route will give us added possibilities.”
The airline’s schedule has doubled in size compared to 2009 and will continue to build its network in the USA to drive growth.
