Arrivals from India to Sri Lanka rose a hefty 55% in May, helping the island achieve an overall figure of 48,943.Overall, Sri Lanka recorded a 39% increase year-on-year, driven by a sharp increase in visitors from the South Asian region, Lanka Business Online said. However the growth slowed from April which recorded a 66.7% rise in tourist arrivals, with the end of the island’s official tourist season spanning November to April, the report said Number of arrivals from the South Asian region during May rose 53% to 21,016 from the 13,734 last year, with the highest number flying in from neighbouring India. Arrivals from India are up 55.8% year-on-year to 16,649. Sri Lanka is witnessing an upswing in tourism with the end of war two years ago, with a target of luring 2.5 million tourists by 2016.
