The Institute of Travel & Tourism (ITT) is to host its 2014 conference in Malta.
Stephen Freudmann, president and chief executive of ITT made the announcement at its annual president’s dinner on Thursday at The Dorchester.
It will take place from 2-4 June 2014 at the Hilton Malta Hotel, with bookings open today.
Freudmann said ITT had chosen a destination closer to home following feedback from members who wanted a change from its long-haul choices in previous years which included Abu Dhabi this year and Barbados in 2012.
“We’ve listened to our members, they wanted short haul and we’ve picked a fabulous short-haul destination. We’re putting together an amazing programme of speakers,” said Freudmann.
“I’ve always maintained that the most successful conferences are those where the destination really wants us and Malta is delighted to host the ITT Conference 2014,” he added.
ABTA and Advantage have both held their conferences in Malta in the last two years, with AITO also due to host their conference in the country later this year.
Malta Tourism Authority’s UK director Alex Incorvaja said those attending ITT will have a “diverse and energising” programme that differs from previous events.
“Those who have already been to Malta will get a great new experience, and Malta virgins will get a real appreciation of the island,” he said.
