Large quake strikes off NZ
A 6.6-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of northeast New Zealand yesterday, the US Geological Survey has said. According to local media reports, a local tsunami warning was issued, but no damage has so far been reported. While the quake was stronger than the 6.3 quake that hit Christchurch in February, it epicentred more than 500km from Auckland - far enough away to not cause any structural damage in the NZ city.
