Luggage Mule has set its sights on growing its B2B business after securing investment for a function that will allow integration with online agencies.
Queens Park Rangers’ defender Nedum Onuoha has invested a six-figure sum in the luggage delivery service, having known its managing director Jordan Makin from school.
Speaking to Travel Daily, Makin said: “I’ve known Nedum since we were both 14 and we’ve kept in touch. He didn’t want to miss out on what could be the next big thing in travel, so his investment came in May and we’ve finalised the development of our new API function.”
Onuoha said: “I’ve known Jordan a long time and I’m really impressed with the growth in business for Luggage Mule over the past 12 months. I’m only too happy to invest to help him and the team row the business even further in the coming years.”
With the function the service hopes to increase its work with online travel agencies and other travel companies that have online booking engines.
Makin also explained it is crucial the option appears during the baggage selection when booking a flight, rather than as an ancillary when a luggage option has already been chosen.
“Most of our business currently has come from direct but we need the B2B support in travel and to see the benefits of the value add. We don’t want to be a niche provider but out there in the mainstream and when people are booking online. We know the interest is there as we already have 140 affiliates and they can see that it’s not only cheaper for their customers but takes some of the hassle off carrying luggage to airports.”
Makin expects luggage delivery to take off in the next 12 to 18 months as it has done in the US, with a focus on taking bags ahead for holidaymakers.
