A new Madame Tussauds waxwork museum will open in the Chinese city of Chongqing, it has been reported.

Xinhua cited the Chongqing government as saying this week that preparations are underway for the opening, with wax figures of Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge already on display in the western metropolis.

The attraction will be operated by the UK’s Merlin Entertainment Group, which is also reported to be planning to launch a SeaLife aquarium and Lego park in the city.

The Chongqing Madame Tussauds will become the fifth in China, following existing locations in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing and Wuhan.

These form part of a collection of 17 attractions around the world, including locations in Bangkok, London, New York, Sydney and Tokyo.
