Three airlines in the South Pacific have formed a new partnership to develop joint air services.
Solomon Airlines, Air Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea’s Air Nuigini, which all operate in the Melanesia region of the Pacific, signed an initial accord in Honiara, the capital of the Solomon Islands, agreeing in principal to jointly develop and promote regional aviation services.
This is expected to lead to the three-way codeshare partnership between Honiara, Port Vila and Port Moresby – the respective capitals of the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea.
Joint services are expected to commence in June 2015, with Air Niugini operating a Fokker 100 aircraft on the route.
The aviation partnership is being driven by the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) – an inter-governmental organisation connecting Fiji, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and New Caledonia.
