More Australians are taking advantage of the Easter and Anzac Day long weekend with record numbers making last-minute bookings, according to online travel company, ZUJI Australia.
Melbourne, Auckland, Cairns, Sydney, Gold Coast, Bali, Hong Kong, Fiji, Phuket and Singapore were named as the top ten destinations for the 22-26 April long weekend.
Managing Director of ZUJI Australia, James Gaskell, said; “We’re not only experiencing a phenomenal increase in international flight bookings, but also a surge in our hotel and flight package sales.
“Australian travellers are really taking advantage of this rare Easter and Anzac Day combination to visit friends and family, or even seeing a little more of their own backyard.
“We’re seeing Melbournians and Sydneysiders sharing the love, with travellers from each city flocking to the other. Compared to last year, we have an increase of about 30% more bookings from Melbourne to Sydney and we’re up 42% with travel from Sydney to Melbourne.
“A lot of Queenslanders are either heading north to spend the Easter break in spots like the Whitsundays and Cairns or stretching their wings and flying to Fiji. Holiday packages for Fiji out of Brisbane are up approximately 18% compared to 2010.
“On the other side of the continent, we’re seeing a 22% rise in Western Australians opting to spend their break relaxing on a beach in Bali.
ZUJI’s booking figures also reinforce the evidence that more Australians than ever are looking to make the pilgrimage to honour the ANZAC tradition, with flights and holidays to Istanbul up significantly year-on-year.
In terms of overall hotel bookings, ZUJI’s most popular domestic destinations for the Easter and Anzac long weekend are Sydney and Melbourne. Internationally, Australian travellers booking online have voted with their keyboards and made Fiji, London, Bali, Singapore and Los Angeles their favourites for 2011.
