UK visitor numbers to Iceland increased by 11.6 percent in September 2011, compared to the same period last year. According to figures released by Promote Iceland, 4,190 Brits travelled to Iceland last month compared to 3,749 in September 2010. Overall, international arrivals to Iceland expanded 26.2 percent.
Sigga Groa, area manager for UK & Ireland commented; “We are delighted to report the greatest total number of visitor arrivals ever recorded in September – and a large percentage of those were from the UK.
“October is also gearing up to be a good month for visiting Iceland as we have the official lighting of Yoko Ono’s ‘Imagine Peace Tower’ this weekend as well as the Iceland Airwaves music festival from October 12-16. Scientists have also predicted the best northern lights in 50 years will be visible in Iceland this winter and so we hope UK visitor numbers will continue to increase for the rest of the year,” Groa added.
