A record number of cruise ship passengers visited or started their cruise at UK ports in 2013, new figures have revealed.
CruiseBritain has said more than 100 ships called into UK ports last year accounting to 866,000 people, up 20% compared to 2012.
Embarkation numbers also reached a record with more than one million people starting their cruise from a British port.
“With a day call growth rate of this magnitude, we are on course to see over a million passenger day calls into UK ports this year. This represents significant tourism revenue for each of the ports visited,” said Daren Taylor, incoming chair of CruiseBritain.
“The rise in both the day call and embarkation figures is extremely encouraging and is a positive endorsement of Britain’s value as a cruise destination and source market. The growth in passengers beginning their cruise includes overseas passengers who represented 21 per cent of the total, a proportion which returns to 2010 levels,” he added.
