MSC founder given Order of Merit

The founder and group president of MSC, Gianluigi Aponte, has been awarded the Order of Merit for Labour (Ordine ‘Al Merito del Lavaro’) at a ceremony overseen by the Italian president Giorgio Napolitano.
The honour was given in recognition of Aponte’s work in international shipping over the four decades.
MSC is the second largest shipping company in the world with an employee base of around 50,000. It is also the largest, privately owned cruise company in the world.
