In what is considered a major milestone, India’s aviation sector got a boost yesterday with the opening of the new Hyderabad airport. Commercial flights will start from March 16 at the Hyderabad Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, named after the late Indian Prime Minister.
Hyderabad is the venue for PATA Travel Mart in September. The new Hyderabad airport is the first one under a public-private partnership and boasts of the longest runways in South Asia at 4,260 meters. It has capacity to handle 12 million passengers a year.
A report from The Economic Times said it was not clear how much the new airport would charge domestic and international passengers when it opens. All airlines will move from the current airport to the new one on March 16.
