A hotel at Shanghai’s Hongqiao International Airport has reopened under AccorHotels’ midscale Mercure brand.
Following a large-scale renovation, the Junrui Hotel Shanghai has relaunched as the Mercure Shanghai Hongqiao Airport.
Located opposite the entrance to Shanghai’s second airport’s Terminal 1 and adjacent to a metro station, the new Mercure Shanghai Hongqiao Airport features 224 rooms, all equipped with free Wi-Fi. A series of “privilege rooms” on the higher floors feature extra amenities such as coffee machines.
Other facilities at the hotel include a restaurant, gym and meeting space.
The property will be operated by Huazhu Hotels Group under its agreement with AccorHotels. Shanghai has become the main market for Huazhu’s expansion in the midscale and upscale sectors, and the company has now signed contracts for 10 Mercure hotels in Shanghai.
Huazhu says that having established a solid presence in China’s major first- and second-tier cities, it is planning a “second stage of growth by expanding into third-tier cities”.
Hongqiao Airport handled almost 40 million passengers in 2015, making it the sixth busiest airport in mainland China.
