Norwegian Cruise Line has announced the two captains for new launch Norwegian Getaway.
Seasoned captains Rune Myre and Tommy Stensrud will take helm of the new ship for its inaugural cruises from Miami.
Myre joined the cruise line in 1998 and was most recently captain on Norwegian Pearl. Stensrud started his career in the Norwegian Navy 35 years ago and joined Norwegian Cruise Line originally as a deck cadet in 1993. He too currently works with Myre on Norwegian Pearl.
Other senior officers for Norwegian Getaway include staff captain Niklsa Persson; chief engineer Carsten Fosbo; chief engineer Oeystein Undrum and hotel director Sean Wurmhoeringer.
“Norwegian Getaway’s arrival in Miami has a lot of significance for us a company since this is the first time in many years that we will have our newest ship based year-round in Miami,” said Kevin Sheehan, Norwegian Cruise Line’s president and CEO. “We are confident that these seasoned officers have what it takes to ensure that Norwegian Getaway’s inaugural season is extremely successful.”
Norwegian Getaway will start its inaugural season in January 2014, three months earlier than originally planned.
