Outgoing PATA President and Chief Executive Officer, Peter de Jong, said his tenure at the travel organisation has been “the most gratifying years, both personally and professionally”.
De Jong was originally scheduled to leave the organisation next year but with a new CEO already found, he had requested an early exit which PATA has granted.
De Jong said he was considering “some exciting new professional opportunities. Opportunities about which I cannot yet be specific, but I promise you’ll be amongst the first to know”.
In a note to industry friends, de Jong recalled the highlights of his career at PATA. Among these, the ‘Welcome Back’ campaign after SARS, which launched PATA’s advocacy platform. He also cited the resumption of control over the PATA Travel Mart and a new corporate identity for the organisation.
During his tenure, PATA also opened offices in China and Dubai as well as launched the PATA CEO Challenge, which took over from the annual PATA conferences.
“PATA is a remarkable organisation, built by remarkable industry leaders, such as you,” de Jong said in his parting statement. “I am honoured and humbled to have been associated with PATA and with you, and to have had the opportunity to make a modest contribution to PATA’s good works.”
