Auckland International Airport released financial results this week, reporting “an excellent 12 months”. According to company Chairwoman, Joan Withers, the airport has emerged from a period of relatively flat profitability, posting a 15.1% increase in underlying profit to NZ$120.87 million (US$100.6).
Improved profitability is attributed to a 9.5% increase in total income to NZ$397.72 million. Furthermore, retail results in the new departures area exceeded projected earnings and a stronger yield in car parking both made significant contributions to financial performance. Airport authorities were even able to turn a profit despite rising operating costs which jumped 14.6% to NZ$99.49 million, owing to the cost of launching several new services by China Airlines, China Southern Airlines and Jetstar.
