Dubai, October 2009 (TravMedia.com): Dubai’s construction workers are set to receive gifts worth more than Dhs 1million as the Shoe Box Appeal 2009 steps into its final phase, according to Pasquale Baiguera, general manager, Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Media City.
He said that so far this year’s campaign has topped 8,000 boxes each filled with personal items, including a money belt, tooth brush, shampoo and a face towel. The Ramadan campaign is led by Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Media City as part of the hotel’s annual Responsible Business activity.
“The collective efforts of more than 3,000 school children has bolstered this year’s community drive to gift to the construction workers, the backbone of Dubai’s real estate infrastructure,” he said.
More than collection points are set up across 55 locations, including TECOM Investments’ business parks and in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Dubai Media City’s lobby areas. TECOM Investments, a member of Dubai Holding, is backing the initiative for the second year.
Mohammad Abdullah, Executive Director, Dubai Media City, said: “Dubai Media City’s role in this campaign comes as part of our commitment to giving back to the community. I would like to thank all the individuals working within TECOM and those from all over the UAE who contributed to this cause in the true spirit of Ramadan.
“Our community work does not end with the success of this campaign; we have a dynamic agenda under TECOM Investments multi-pronged strategy,” said Abdullah.
Other campaign partners include Union Paper Mills and regional PR firm, Strategic Solutions. City7 TV, the premier English language TV channel of the UAE, is onboard as Media Sponsor.
Helping Hands will manage the distribution of shoe boxes to the migrant workers across UAE in two phases. The organisation has been operating in UAE since 2006, and is focussed on supporting migrant workers in construction industry. The Shoe Box Appeal distribution logistics are managed by DHL UAE.
“There is a real community desire to show appreciation to the workers who help shape the city. The Shoe Box Appeal is one small but real show of support for their welfare,” said Elle of the Roger and Elle duo at HelpingHands UAE.
The campaign remains open to receive more goody-filled shoe boxes for another two weeks.
