14 Jan 10 (TravMedia.com): A huge increase in post-recession demand has seen Langham Place hotel in Hong Kong with record career opportunities, not seen since the five-star hotel opened in 2005.
The hotel currently has 60 career vacancies; 10% of its total workforce. The vacancies range from managerial to entry level roles across sales and marketing, front office, the club lounge, housekeeping, Chuan Spa, and the hotel’s restaurants and bars.
To encourage people to send their CV’s Langham Place will donate HK$5.55 to the Hong Kong Youth Arts Foundation for every application received before 2 February 2010. Top applicants will then be invited to attend a special ‘Langham Place Star’s Day’ to get an up close experience of the hotel’s culture.
“Over the last year we have taken a very cautious approach to recruitment,” says general manager Shaun Campbell. “Post-recession we’ve enjoyed phenomenal customer growth. In order to meet the future growth forecasted over coming months, we’re looking for the right people now who can be trained to carry the Langham Place spark,” he said.
The hotel has somewhat of a trend of going against the grain of traditional five-star hotels and similarly staff need to be life-lovers. “We’re looking for vibrant, free-thinking, fun-loving people who wake up loving what they do. Tech geeks are welcome too,” says Shaun. “The hotel has a very quirky, relaxed style and that’s what we want to see come through with the candidates.”
As for the HK$5.55 donation per person: “We want staff that are socially conscious. We added the donation component to encourage candidates who think about the society around them. We’re located at 555 Shanghai Street so that’s where the donation amount came from,” says Shaun.
