Ferry operator Red Funnel has announced it will invest GBP2 million into upgrading its Red Falcon vessel.
The ferry update will add an extra 55% capacity to travel between Southampton and the Isle of Wight and will be launched in Easter 2014.
Two new passenger lounges will be added in the investment, as well as a new sun deck and promenade walk.
New food and drink options; a pet-friendly lounge; quiet zone and meetings and events space will also be included, as well as improved WiFi and more charging points.
An information bureau will also be introduced selling tickets, merchandise and gifts.
“We have listened very carefully to our customers over the last few years to develop a new travel experience which will meet their needs – significantly more inside seats, more tables for food and drinks, air conditioning, a new pet lounge, better facilities for wheelchair users and an improved food and beverage offer are just some of the highlights,” said Murray Carter, operations director at Red Funnel.
The new look could be rolled out to Red Funnel’s other vessels if they are as popular as the company hopes.
“If the new design and layout proves as popular with customers as we expect, then I am confident that we can make further investments in customer service for Red Eagle and Red Osprey that would further raise our service standards in time for the 2015 summer season,” said Paul Winter, acting CEO of Red Funnel.
