Regional tourism organisations (RTOs) in New Zealand have pledged to cooperate on joint marketing campaigns to attract tourists to their respective destinations. An agreement was reached by tourism representatives at the Inbound Tour Operators Council (ITOC) New Zealand, a three-day conference held in Tauranga this week.
The new approach serves two objectives. Firstly, working together should help to raise the profile of RTOs within the industry. This in turn will make it easier to acquire funding for joint marketing campaigns.
Glenn Ormsby, General Manager of Tourism Bay of Plenty, said; “Instead of advertising in isolation, we can join the driving routes and operate joint marketing campaigns in both New Zealand and Australia.” According to the Bay of Plenty Times, Ormsby has partnered up with RTOs in Rotorua and Hamilton to attract more overseas tourists, particularly Australians.
