Seabourn makes waves with three new ships

Luxurycruise operator, The Yachts of Seabourn, yesterday announced the launch ofthree new vessels. The company’s President and CEO, Pamela Conover, made the announcementto media at a press conference in Sydney.The first two new luxury vessels, Seabourn Odyssey and Seabourn Soujorn, willlaunch in 2009 and 2010 respectively, with the third to be launched in 2011.The US$900m investment will take Seabourn from its current capacity of 600cabins to 1,350 berths, which the company said will enable it to focus on somenew and exciting markets and itineraries.
The newships will double Seabourn’s present fleet from three to six, and treble thesize of the existing fleet in terms of tonnage. However the new vessels willonly slightly more than double the amount of passenger capacity, underliningthe extra space available to passengers on the new vessels.
Ms Conovercommented that with significant price reductions of up to 65%, the company hasfound that the strategy has attracted 67% new guests to the line and anadditional 36% of new travel agents. For travel agents that book passengersbetween now and the end of May 2009 there is a US$200 commission bonus.
