Shanghai’s air quality sank to a four-year low on Monday, as sand storms blew over the city. According to a Shanghai Daily report, all areas except downtown Huangpu district recorded ‘heavy air pollution’ – the highest of a five-level scale used to assess air quality. The city’s Meteorological Bureau said that the conditions were likely to clear over the next few days, but authorities advised residents to keep windows shut, wear face masks and minimise the amount of time spent outdoors.
