Shanghai bids to cut travelling times
Residents and visitors in Shanghai can expect to spend no more than 45 minutes travelling between any two city centre destinations, following a the development of a new urban transport plan unveiled this week. The Shanghai Urban and Rural Construction and Transport Commission said that a series of subways, highways and railways will be built in the next five years, cutting journey times. A further 200km of highways along with 200km of Metro and rail lines will be developed by the end of 2015, the Shanghai Daily reported officials as saying. Construction of Metro Lines 12, 13 and the extension of Line 11 will accelerate this year, while Line 17 and extensions to lines 5, 8, 9 and 10 are also in the pipeline.
